I was in the local UPS Store today and someone made the comment that ‘isn’t it amazing how fast technology is moving today?’  And the other person replied that ‘the reason is that there really is no government regulation stifling the creativity or development.’  We can take for example a new product like an iPhone and many of the new Web technologies that are available today  They appear to be coming out every month and it can be daunting to keep up with them.

If we look at the development of the automotive industry over the past 20-30 years it is surprising that we have not seen a dramatic jump in core technology i.e. fuel consumption efficiencies. This is caused by 2 factors in my opinion: 1) little or no demand for 100 MPG 2) bureaucratic business processes in multi national conglomerates.

Maybe if we had some lobbyists pushing for better fuel consumption we might see some changes. Until then we are beholden to foreign oil and climatic changes due to the burning of fossil fuels. Maybe less regulation in the automotive space would be a good thing?  Would the demand for 100 MPG cars go up if someone was able to produce them cost effectively?
