Social Media is Direct Response – Viral Advertising is Direct Response
by Jim Peake
Not everyone should be doing social media marketing. We all don’t have to be on Facebook and MySpace.
At the end of the day all marketers want to engage the consumer and get to "respond." Social Media is so attractive since users are everywhere and they are engaged. Typically they are engaged with other like minded people. So where do the marketers come in? In my opinion, if the marketers can be involved but in the background that is the ideal place to be. (More about this in a future post).
In this article about social media and direct marketing Michael Radigan talks about Myth vs. Facts when it comes to Social Media Marketing and just plain old common sense. Again when it comes down to creating something viral, it is important to try and test several different versions and see what works or as he says it see what sticks. There is no formula for viral advertising, except viral works really well when it works.
When it comes to your brand he says to let go of the control of the brand. If you have a quality brand/product it should not matter if you have lost control, let it go because that is how others will come across it.
